Tomorrowland (2015)

In the scene where we see policemen with a police dog, one of the trainers was actually dressed as the cop. On action the dog sniffs around debris. When the actor enters from camera the dog is called to mark by the trainer and verbally cued to bark.

In the scene where the dog runs after the girl and is about to attack her when he’s pulled back by the chain he’s attached to, the trainer was waiting off camera. When the girl stops in front of the dog, the trainer called the dog and the dog ran from point A to point B. They cut and got the shot of the dog barking at the girl while she’s lying on the ground. Actress starts with her back to the dog, facing camera. The dog starts approaching wearing a chain. The AHA Safety Representative checked the chain for safety and comfort. The actress stood on her mark while the dog stood at the end of the chain. One of the trainers stood behind the actress, standing on platform under the camera. The camera looked over the actress’ shoulder onto the dog. Trainer agitates dog by verbal cues and using bite sleeve. Trainer allows dog to bite sleeve. Dog shows no interest in actress only in biting the sleeve.

In the next scene, we see the dog on the chain going after the girl then being pulled back by the chain. This sequence was accomplished through a series of shots and tCGI in post production. First the dog was released by a trainer. The trainer stood by the camera wearing a bite sleeve and using verbal cues to agitate the dog. On action, the dog ran toward the camera and leapt for the bite sleeve. The dog grabbed the bite sleeve. The actress was nowhere near the dog during this action. In post-production, the trainer will be removed and it will look as if the dog hit the end of his chain and was pulled back. This never really happened. He merely bit the trainer’s bite sleeve.
