In the scene where the actor encounters several dogs in an alley and feeds
them from a plastic bag, the dogs were brought to the set in an
air-conditioned van. Trainers placed the dogs on their marks at one end of
the alley. On action, the trainer let them go and run freely to the actor,
who fed the dog food from a bag. The dogs ate the food naturally. The
street was closed off the traffic.

In the same alley but different scene, the actress walks down the alley,
encounters a dog, where she feeds him and the dog licks her face. To
accomplish this scene, the trainer had the actress place a buzzer in her
pocked. The dog had been trained to walk towards the buzzer when used. When
the dog walked towards the actress, they interacted in a natural manner,
the dog licked her face. The dog was rewarded with treats after filming the
scene.

In the scene where the actress walks down a hallway, picks up a cat and
walks into the woman’s apartment, a plastic wire was placed around the base
of the set to prevent the cat from escaping. Prior to shooting the scene
the actress was given instructions on how to handle the cat. Likewise, the
cat and the actress were acquainted with each other before filming the
scene.

All the birds in the film were created through CGI.
