Deliver Us From Evil (2014)
Animal Action

In the scene where we see an owl in a tree, production created a tree that was the right height for filming the owl. The trainer placed the owl on the tree branch.
For the scene where the cop enters the zoo and we see wolves, hyena, bear, tiger, lion and black leopard:
Lion: The trainer stood at the release/catch cage, while another trainer stood next to the camera. There was a secured gate between the lion and the second trainer. In order to get the lion to be aggressive, trainers placed food on top of an apple box and placed it on the outside of the lions reach. On action, the lion tried to reach through the holes of the fence to get the bait. This gives the image that the lion is being aggressive. In the subsequent scene where the lion jumps on the rock, the lion was filmed on a green screen. The lion came to the set and trainer cued him to jump onto a large fake rock. Once the lion was on the rock, the trainer cued another trainer to pull a piece of meat on a string very quickly across the enclosure as production filmed. This gave the impression that the lion charged.
Bear: The bear was brought to the set by trainers. The bear worked on a green screen. The trainer cued the bear to stand up and the bear followed suit.
Wolves: The trainers brought wolves into a large, fenced, exercise yard area. There were trainers to handle each wolf. They each took turns calling the wolves up towards camera to give aggressive looks and snarl.
Alligator: Trainers brought an alligator secured with tape around its mouth until filming. Trainers also used a wire tether wrapped around the alligator’s hind legs to guide/ collect/restrain. On action trainers cued alligators to walk into water.
Tiger: Trainer brought tiger onto the set. The trainer cued the tiger to sit down and stay then look towards camera.
Hyena: Trainers brought hyena onto the exercise yard/set. The hyena was given a mark to stand on and cued to look in a certain direction. Trainers then cued hyena to vocalize.
Leopard: Trainers brought leopard on set and put her on her mark. Trainers cued leopard to look at camera and growl.
In the scene where a snake slithers over actor’s shoe, the actor placed his boot on mark. A trainer placed the snake on the actor’s boot. The trainer then had snake slither over the boot by placing food off-camera.
In the scene where the cat hisses at the actor from the closet, the trainer brought the cat to the set, then signaled the cat to hiss by touching his tail with a dowel. He growled and hissed, but faced the trainer lying on floor. Franklin hissed from several marks on the floor of the closet, while looking up toward camera.
In the scene where the dog is chained to a bed and barks at the policemen, trainers brought the dog to the set and familiarized him with bed. Vicky applied water, clay, talcum powder to scruff him up. They also added non-toxic makeup on his head and neck. Merlin was highly motivated with a toy. The trainer waved the toy in front of the dog, then made it disappear, which caused the dog to jump and bark.
In the scene where a snake dangles from a vent, the trainer prepped snake to wrap around a rope that was attached to the plastic corpse on a shelf. When camera and set were ready, the trainer wrapped the snake’s tail around the rope.
The spiders, bats, monkeys on the jungle gym, flies and fish in an aquarium were done through CGI.
The dead cat nailed to the cross was fake. Production provided documentation on the fake cat.
